CPCLTT attempts to have all our members improve their skill level by playing regular tournaments with varied formats exposing our members to a variety of players.
We tabulate the points earned and games played, won and lost to create two ranking systems. This helps our members to evaluate their progress and is very valuable for team owners when choosing players at the yearly auction.
Elo Skill Rating
The Elo rating system originated in chess and is named after its creator named after its creator Arpad Elo, a Hungarian-American chess master and physics professor.
Basically the system works by all players starting at a BaseRating (1000 for us) and each win impacts the winner and loser using a KFactor (32) and the current Elo points differential between the two opponents.
The number of points awarded and lost is determined by the differential between the two playersโ Elo scores before the game. If P1 is really good and has a high Elo to start, and P2 is really bad and has a low Elo, you would expect P1 to win against P2. If that ends up happening, P1 wins a very small number of points and P2 loses a small number. But if P2 manages to win against P1 in a big upset, P2 will win a lot of points and P1 will lose a lot.
Over the course of many games, playersโ ranks tend to stabilize at a level that represents their actual skill. However, Elo doesnโt take into account how many games a player has played. So against new players, whose scores have not yet found their homes, older players can erroneously win or lose a lot of points.
Most Valuable Player (MVP)
All players in CPCLTT are associated with teams. Most of the time for the team events the players will play as the originally allocated team. In some occasions due to non-availability of players a player may be allocated to an adhoc team and the points they earn for that tournament would be used to determine the winner of only that tournament. However we also calculate all the wins of the player and credit it back to their original team and credit it to the player.
At the end of the year the players that have contributed the most points to their team will be awarded a prize and the teams with the most points will also be awarded a prize. This points ranking naturally awards players who have high attendance across the year as well as their skill in winning matches for their team.
We award 3 points for every singles win, 2 points for every doubles win and 1 point for every Team singles win
